How did you get started in the field of supply chain management?
With my university business degree in hand, I was ready to conquer the business world and obtain the corner office. Well, that corner office was located in a warehouse and my position as stores personnel was my introduction to supply chain. Like many other supply chain professionals, my interest in the profession increased as my career developed.
Describe your current work; what is your role there?
In my current role, I lead the Strategic Procurement group at Manitoba Hydro. The group oversees the support of Power Projects, Customer Care & Marketing, and the Corporate division, and we provide consulting services for the entire corporation. The group can be involved in all aspects of a project, from consulting at the conceptual stages, to hiring of contractors, to the execution. We provide support in competitive bidding, contacting and contract management.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Some of my many proudest professional accomplishments are:
- Meeting and working with many talented people
- Working in many industries
- Giving back to SCMA in many capacities.
How has PMAC (now SCMA) membership/SCMP accreditation been of value to you and your organization?
It has opened doors for me in terms of business and career opportunities, and in creating global networks. It allows me to experience world-class education seminars and events.
Tell us something interesting about yourself outside of SCM.
Two of my favourite activities outside of SCM are cooking and travelling. There is something about bringing family and friends together over a great meal, drink and conversation. For travelling, I have had the privilege of experiencing Canada by visiting all provinces and one territory. There is nothing like touching oceans at each coast, along with experiencing the many beautiful places we are enriched with in Canada.
