The SCMA Mentorship Program is exclusive to members and designed to provide professionals in supply chain management with the opportunity to deepen their understandings of the needs of the supply chain industry by connecting them with meaningful mentorship opportunities.
Why Participate in a Mentorship Program?
This mentorship program is designed to bring together a mentor and a mentee with the goal to foster professional development in, and knowledge of, the supply chain industry. This is a perfect opportunity for individuals at any career stage to connect with industry stakeholders in order to enhance and accelerate growth through guidance, knowledge and mutual trust.
The premise is that throughout your life and career, there are times when you can benefit from the advice, guidance and support of a mentor. There are also times when you can share your expertise and experiences to guide mentees in the right direction.
Many of the world’s most successful professionals have been involved in mentoring relationships. Indra Nooyi the current Chairperson and CEO of PepsiCo credits her mentor Steve Reinemund (former PepsiCo CEO) as playing a key role in her career: “If I hadn't had mentors, I wouldn't be here today…I am a product of great mentoring and great coaching."
For a mentor, the benefits are of a more personal nature. Though mentoring provides a practical opportunity for leadership development, it will also allow the mentor to reflect on his or her practices. Working with a mentee exposes the mentor to new ideas and opportunities for learning and continuous improvement. SCMPs involved in mentorship programs can also receive Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points, as well as points toward the SCMA National Volunteer Award. Finally, there is a personal satisfaction in teaching and sharing one’s experiences.
- 75% of executives point to mentoring as playing a key role in their success. (ATD)
- Mentors and mentees were promoted 5 to 6 times more often than those not in a mentoring program. (Gartner)
- Managerial productivity increased by 88% when mentoring was involved, versus only a 24% increase with training alone. (ATD)
- Matching based on skills, industry, job function, experience, gender, location and language.
- Easily build your profile by importing it directly from LinkedIn.
Share resources and participate in discussions to help members achieve their goals.
We are calling upon members to join the SCMA Mentorship Program if you are seeking mentorship or wish to become a mentor; and want to enrich your professional career in supply chain in a meaningful way.
How it works
SCMA has partnered with MentorCity, a Canadian company that has developed an online mentoring and coaching platform that makes it easy to connect mentors and mentees to meaningful mentoring relationships. MentorCity allows mentors and mentees to find their own geographically-based or sector-based matches. The online platform is supported by a variety of tools and resources that will guide you through and encourage the mentor relationship. All information is confidential. SCMA will not have access to any personal information disclosed during the mentoring process. All mentoring activities are kept strictly between the mentor and the mentee. SCMA’s role is to provide access to MentorCity as a platform to facilitate this experience for our members.
It is important to remember that the relationship is not about exchanging business information or “recruiting”…
It’s about Leadership!
It is about the mentee discussing his or her questions and concerns with the mentor. The mentor’s responsibility is to offer advice, personal insight, support, and encouragement.
