On February 29, a group of 95 undergraduate students competed in teams of three or four to resolve real-world strategic and tactical challenges through the examination of topics such as logistics, network design, procurement, relationship management, and sustainability at the 2016 SCMA Student Case Competition, sponsored by Loblaws, Export Development Canada (EDC), ValueInfinity and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).
A total of 25 teams participated from, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Quebec and Ontario. The teams studied a business case and presented their solutions to a panel of judges consisting of business professionals, academics and corporate sponsors. The competition took place in two host locations across Canada. This year’s hosting schools were the Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary and the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University.
In the afternoon students also had the opportunity to take part in speed networking with industry professionals. Students got to spend time learning from those already involved in the supply chain industry through knowledge sharing and advice, as well as making connections with other students studying related subjects and with similar interests.
The competition was a great success! This year's Student Case Competition winners from Ryerson University were Bryan Gaytan-Pineda, Harsh Chaudhari, Urooj Siddiqui, Asad Mohani.
Thank you to the hosting schools for making it possible to engage supply chain and business students across Canada. A special thank you also goes out to the judges for contributing their time and expertise to make the event successful, and thank you to our sponsors for helping develop tomorrow's leaders today by sponsoring the event.
