The Student Case Competition relies on industry and academic volunteers to act as judges. The competition is a one-day event, held Saturday February 25, 2017 with the judging commitment only requiring part of the day. This is a great opportunity to evaluate the strength of a new group of graduates and to keep abreast of which skills are being taught. 

Who are we Looking for to be a Judge?

  • Industry professionals in supply chain management positions and who are members of the association
  • Representatives from sponsors who are supply chain management practitioners
  • Academics - who will not judge their own team!
  • Consultants with a supply chain management practice

What is the Role of a Judge?

Judges are formed into panels of three who will mark each team individually and then collaborate to submit one mark per team. A marking rubric has been established to provide a fair and equitable evaluation. All marks are numeric. Judges who do not mark per the method provided will be removed.

Students will present their solution to their assigned judging panel who will evaluate the following components:

  • Case solution
  • Presentation
  • Originality / Critical Thinking

Where and When

Time Commitment

  • 2-3 hours one week in advance to review the case, rules and on site requirements
  • 1 to 1.5 hours one week in advance for a briefing session
  • Day of the competition, Saturday February 25, 2017, approximately 12 noon to 6 p.m. EST for the Eastern Region or 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. MST for the Western Region.


  • Those who have completed their SCMP designation can gain 5 CPD credits through judging the Student Case Competition.
