The industry’s fall boat show circuit will officially kick off this week when the 31st Michigan City In-Water Boat Show opens on Thursday near Chicago. After that, major fall shows will take place in locations like Detroit, Cedar Point, Newport, Long Beach, Norwalk, Atlantic City, Annapolis, Ft. Lauderdale, to name just a few.

The SCMA shows are such an important way to put your products on display at an event that is produced and owned by the industry!  We put our revenue back into the industry with advertising, legislative representation and information distribution on behalf of our members.  The stronger the show - the more money put into advertising that show, and the more consumers see boating as the alternative investment that is attractive!  Your business can't loose by exhibiting at an SCMA show if the market served by the show is right for you.

Overheard at the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show last week: Two salesmen from different dealerships were talking across the dock to each other about how bad sales have been this summer . . . while visitors were walking by!

Good grief, I thought, with those attitudes each of those dealerships would probably be better off leaving those guys at home. But, what I was hearing may have really been reflecting a breakdown in leadership.

With less than two weeks away from show-time, your SCMA staff is very focused on the upcoming 42nd Annual Long Beach Yacht and Boat Show, September 9-12 at Shoreline Village Marina.  In spite of a still challenging economy, we've been successful in putting together a very representative, balanced and diverse list of exhibitors from both the power boat and sail boat segments of the market which should please boat show attendees.  I'm also pleased that we've also added a kayak component to this year's Long Beach show which is another added bonus.
