June 12, 2015 was a milestone for SCMA. SCMA is a Federation made up of the National Association and ten (10) Provincial and Territorial Institutes. To date, our activities in common have been governed by a series of bilateral affiliation agreements between the National Association and each individual Institute, signed back in 1995. In the interest of making our Federation more effective, efficient and collaborative, a Roles and Responsibilities Task Force was struck in the fall of 2013, with a goal to better define the respective roles within the Federation, particularly on the cusp of the pending governance change within the National Board. The excellent work of that Task Force laid the groundwork for the development of a new Federation Agreement, based on national consensus around the common elements governed by the National Association, and the roles that the National Board, the National Secretariat, the Institutes, and the new Federation Council play in serving and supporting SCMA’s members. Rather than a series of bilateral agreements, this time around it is a single agreement that was signed by all the partners at the SCMA National Conference in Halifax, Friday June 12, 2015.
