SCMA Scholarship Awards

SCMA actively supports higher education. In order to help ease the burden of escalating education costs for deserving students attending universities, technical institutes or community colleges, SCMA has established its own Scholarship Fund which awards cash scholarships annually to children under the age of 21 of regular SCMA members. Applicants need only be full-time students, or have plans to become one in the future to be considered. A panel of impartial educators evaluate the submissions and select the eventual winners.

2010 Scholarship Winners

The challenge of graduating from high school and being admitted to a college or university is indeed a daunting task for many teenagers, not just because of the academic requirements, but for the financial commitment as well.

To assist in the pursuit of higher education, SCMA has again awarded two cash scholarships of $1,250 each to 2010 graduating seniors of SCMA members for outstanding achievement and excellence.

The first recipient of an SCMA scholarship is Kayley Jerman of San Diego, daughter of Kurt Jerman, West Coast Multihulls. Kayley is a graduate of High Tech High in San Diego where she maintained a 4.28 GPA putting her in the top 4 percent of her class. In addition to participation in varsity sports such as volleyball, softball and soccer, Kayley has been active in numerous community organizations such as St. Vincent DePaul Children’s Hospital, Elderhelp and Habitat for Humanity. Kayley is planning to attend Azusa Pacific University with majors in athletic training and Spanish.

Our other SCMA scholarship recipient for 2010 is Garrison Haddon, from Bonsall, son of John Haddon, Sea Witch Marine. Garrison graduated from Fallbrook High School this past June with a 4.2 GPA. Garrison is an accomplished horseman and an expert motocross racer in addition to being an outstanding track/cross-country runner. His goal in the fall is to attend UC Irvine and pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering while continuing his career as a top-level motocross racer.

Our congratulations to these outstanding students!
