Read about Kyla Spak and her experience with Membership Referral Bonus Program.
Kyla Spak currently works as the Materials Manager at Tundra Process Solutions Ltd. in the Calgary head office, with teams in Calgary and Edmonton. She is responsible for corporate inventory management and warehouse operations and logistics. This role gives her the opportunity to incorporate her analytical skills and supply chain background to design new processes and reporting tools for her growing company.
Kyla started her career in Supply Chain after completing her Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Alberta. A summer job turned into a full time Transportation Analyst role in Calgary with an international cement company. As a new graduate, she had no idea what the world of Supply Chain was all about, but she found it very interesting as she started working. Fortunately, she had great mentorship and learnt a lot within a quick span of time.
Kyla was given plenty of exposure to the areas of transportation, inventory management and procurement and was always encouraged to keep learning. She began looking for ways to expand her knowledge of Supply Chain Management and, after speaking with a senior co-worker, decided to begin the SCMP designation program from SCMA Alberta, as she thought it would allow her to expand her Supply Chain career. The SCMP designation opened doors for Kyla and ensured that she stood out amongst the others who came with lot of experience. After completing her SCMP, she held several roles in procurement, along with logistics and inventory management. She has worked for companies in the public sector as well as in manufacturing and oil and gas.
A co-worker recently asked Kyla about the SCMP program and if she felt it would be beneficial to enroll. She shared with him that the program was great, with plenty of benefits including networking opportunities and enhanced knowledge. She took advantage of the Membership Referral Bonus program by SCMA Alberta, which was running from March 1 - April 30, 2018, and referred her co-worker for Membership and to enroll in the SCMP program. She promised her co-worker that she would buy him a coffee if she won something. She sent a quick email to the institute and forgot all about it. Later in May, she was shocked to receive the call saying she had been drawn as the winner! Turns out, she will owe her co-worker more than a coffee now!
Kyla is married with two girls which keeps her busy when she is not at work. She spends her time often running kids to gymnastics, soft ball and swimming or planning her next annual family vacation.
