As the leading and largest association in Canada for supply chain management professionals, the Supply Chain Management Association (SCMA) is the national voice for advancing and promoting the profession. SCMA sets the standard of excellence for professional skills, knowledge and integrity and was the first supply chain association in the world to require that all members adhere to a Code of Ethics.

As the provincial arm of SCMA, we are dedicated to being the leading source of education, training and development in the field of supply chain management in New Brunswick.

SCMA NB offers modules and interactive workshops preparing our members to gain their nationally recognized Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation, the highest achievement in professional supply chain management education in Canada. We also offer opportunities to network with your peers in New Brunswick and across Canada.

With 8,000 members (150 in NB) working across private and public sectors, SCMA is the principal source of supply chain training, education and professional development in the country, requiring all members to adhere to a Code of Ethics. Through its 10 Provincial and Territorial Institutes, SCMA grants the SCMP (Supply Chain Management Professional) designation, the highest achievement in the field and the mark of strategic leadership.

Founded in 1919, SCMA has evolved from its roots in purchasing and today embraces all aspects of strategic supply chain management, including:

  • Purchasing/Procurement
  • Strategic Sourcing
  • Contract Management
  • Materials/Inventory Management
  • Logistics and Transportation

The profession favourably influences the social and economic success of not only Canadians but citizens worldwide.

SCMA is an original member of the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) and the only Canadian association representing this country’s supply chain management professionals in IFPSM.

  • Retail
  • Government, Health Care and Education

How is SCMA Structured?

A non-profit association, SCMA is a federation of the National Secretariat, and the Provincial and Territorial Institutes, working together to achieve a common vision.

The coordinated work of the federation is defined by a Federation Agreement, signed in June 2015 which also outlines the respective roles and responsibilities of all Federation members. As an example, education and accreditation programs are developed by the SCMA National Secretariat and delivered through the Institutes. Additionally, National is responsible for national branding plans, federal government relations and international strategic alliances. Institute partners are responsible for communicating with their membership, recruiting new members and conferring the SCMP designation.

SCMA National's strategic objectives are determined by a competency-based Board of Directors, in alignment with the overarching Strategic Framework of the Federation. The slate of National directors is proposed annually by the Leadership Development Committee and approved at the AGM. Headquartered in Toronto, the SCMA National Secretariat is managed by a full-time professional staff.
