Negotiation Strategies for Supply Chain Management

This seminar is designed to prepare buying staff to succeed in negotiations through development of a consistent and disciplined approach to the process and a tool kit that can be used to ensure competent buyer action. The expected results are a much more cognizant awareness of the negotiating process to provide the attendee with a degree of confidence in their approach to negotiations and their ability to determine and use the appropriate negotiating strategies.

Negotiations do not always go as planned and information or an approach that has not been planned can lead to additional positives. Negotiation sessions can be predictable but outcomes and results are not necessarily fulfilled as designed. As a result, the need to approach negotiations with flexibility and objectivity is needed to ensure that new opportunities are fully explored and understood and wherever possible accommodated within the negotiating framework. The seminar is designed to reinforce a disciplined approach with flexibility built into the process.

Competitive Bidding and the Tendering Process

This 2 day interactive seminar will provide attendees with an all encompassing understanding of the competitive bid process.  Day 1 will provide an introduction into the laws of competitive bidding and the implications of contract A and B.  The various tools available and their use in conducting competitive bid requests such as tenders, RFP’s, RFI’s, RFEI’s, pre-qualification, and RFQ’s will each be examined.  How to prepare an actual RFI as well as the evaluation process will also be covered. Day 2 will focus on the legalities of competitive bidding and will start with a thorough discussion on contract A and B as well as the most recent rulings of the Supreme Court of Canada.   Participants will have an opportunity to test their knowledge and understanding of these rulings through interactive exercises.

Transportation Services

Effective management of transportation services is essential for maintaining inbound supply schedules and customer service requirements. This seminar is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the various services available to purchasers, elements of the sourcing and acquisition process, contractual requirements and service metrics necessary to transform transportation into a strategic asset for the organization.

Inventory Management

The function of inventory management is seldom appreciated. It seems that only when the inventories fail to generate revenues it receive attention from the responsible personnel of the organizations. Inventory serves the purpose of generating revenues and net income for the organization by ensuring the needs of all customers are properly satisfied.  This seminar will introduce the participants to the mechanics of inventory management and follow through by introducing and demonstrating the application of these necessary resources for ensuring continued growth to the organization.

Purchasing Process and Practice

This two day seminar will deal with what purchasing processes are and how they should be identified, managed and evaluated to maximize organizational efficiencies.  Throughout the two days participants will partake in case studies, simulations and analyze different purchasing challenges that modern day firms face.  Some of what participants will learn about includes the management of purchasing practices/processes, the pivotal role that purchasing processes play in supply chain management, the concepts of Benchmarking, Reengineering, Just-in-Time and Total Quality Management and the use different purchasing process improvement tools to save organizations time and money with their Supply Chain Management practices. 

Supplier Sourcing and Management

In this two-day seminar participants will be introduced to concepts around supplier selection, management and evaluation. Selecting and managing suppliers is a fundamental role for buyers and procurement professionals across all industries. Conducting research and carefully evaluating your suppliers prior to developing relationships with them is the key to minimizing risk and forming long-lasting partnerships.

Topics covered include research, selection, maintenance, quality, joint ventures, metrics and overall administration required by buyers.

Supply Chain Relationships for Success

This two day seminar will illustrate the significant importance of creating, building and maintaining effective business relationships in the field of supply chain management.  Participants will study different organizational challenges and strategies where relationships are leveraged and play a pivotal role in everyday business.

Final Workshop and Case Study

The Diploma program will culminate in a 3-day workshop. With a focus on ethical procurement practices, this workshop will summarize and implement the key learning points obtained through the Business Management Courses and Seminars through practical application and professional presentations. Topics to be reviewed include: The financial scope of supply chain management, supplier development, costing data, transportation services, and inventory management.

At the end of the Workshop, participants will be given a case study to complete. This case study will be completed and submitted to the instructor for grading within a set time frame after the workshop.
