Registration Procedures

1. What is the registration procedure?

Once you have been accepted into the SCMP Program, you may register for an online module by going to http://scma.com/on/education-training-programs/cscmp-designation-program/module-descriptions/scmp-online

Click on "Register" next to the module in which you wish to enroll.  You will then be taken to the SCMP Online Registration page.  Enter your primary e-mail address and click "Continue".  Check the price box and click "Continue" again.  Select your method of payment and, if you are paying by credit card, enter your card details, and click "Complete Registration".  An email will be sent to your primary email address confirming your registration.

2. How do I login to the SCMP Online Program?

Access to the SCMP Online Program is available by logging into the SCMA Member Portal (https://portal.scma.com/en/portallogin)*.  Click on the link "SCMP Online Learning" from the menu on the right.  This will log you into the SCMP Online Learning platform.  You should see the modules you are currently enrolled in on the right side of the page under "My Courses".  If you do not, click on button in the menu bar to select a course.  You can click on the pin next to the course, so it will appear under "My Courses" the next time you log in.

*If you have not logged into the SCMA National Member Portal before you will need to set up a username and password. Your username will be your primary email address. To reset your password, please click on "Forgot Your Password/First time logging in"; this will prompt you to select a new password.

3. Why am I unable to log into the online portal?

SCMP Program Eligibility Box - To access the portal, the SCMP Administrator at your local institute must confirm your eligibility for the SCMP program in the system. If this has not been confirmed, you will get a message asking you to contact your Institute. Please follow up with them immediately.

Membership Renewal – Your membership must be current to access the site. Upon renewing your membership, you may experience an interruption to your access. Please contact your provincial institute immediately and ask them to check your program eligibility box.

4. Why do I need to apply to my local institute before registering?

Registration in the SCMP program is contingent upon meeting admission criteria. Your provincial institute must first determine your eligibility.

5. If I live outside of Ontario do I have to notify my provincial institute prior to registering?

If you have been officially accepted into the SCMP Program and are a member in good standing, it is not necessary to notify your institute prior to registering for each online module. Everyone who has been admitted to the program and is a member in good standing will be granted credit by their provincial institute upon the successful completion of each online module.

6. May I register for two modules in the same academic session?

Given the intensity of the program, we strongly recommend that candidates take the 13-week modules individually. Please see the SCMP Suggested Study Schedule for more information.

7. Do I need to take the online modules in a specific order?  If I take Module 1 online, will I have to complete the remaining modules online?

Ideally, you should start the program with Module 1 as it is the foundation course for the program.  Once completing Module 1, you may complete the remaining modules in whichever order you wish.  You may take any of the modules in whichever format is most convenient for you.  By taking one module online, you are not committed to doing all of them in this format. If you prefer to take some online and some in the classroom, you are certainly free to do so.

8. Is there a deadline to enroll?

It is best to register early to ensure you have access to the materials the week prior to the start of the online module. 

Your last day to enroll for an online module will be 24 hours prior to the first day of class.   

Payment & Cancellation Policy

9. What is the total cost per module including tuition and materials?

Early Bird Registration Fees

Early bird registrations are available for Modules 1, 5 and 7 until April 7, 2019.  The early bird registration fee for Module 1 is $895.50 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax, and for Modules 5 and 7, the early bird registration fee is $625.50 per module (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

Early bird registrations are available for Modules 2-4 until April 14, 2019.  The early bird registration fee per module is $895.50 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

Early bird registrations are available for Modules 6 and 8 until April 28, 2019.  The early bird registration fee for per module is $625.50 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

Regular Registration Fees

After April 7, 2019, the cost per module for Modules 1, 5 and 7 is $995.00 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

After April 14, 2019, the cost per module for Modules 2-4 is $995.00 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

After April 28, 2019, the cost per module for Modules 6 and 8 is $695.00 (including tuition and materials) plus your provincial tax.

10. How much tax will I pay?

Participants will be taxed at their home province/territory's tax rate.

11. Can I pay by cheque?

Like most online systems, immediate payment by credit card is required to complete your registration.

If you would like to pay by cheque, you can choose the payment option "Cheque".

12. How do I obtain a PDF copy of my receipt of purchase?

To access a PDF copy of your receipt, log into the SCMA Member Portal and click on "My Event Registrations" from the menu on the right.  Under "My Event Transactions", find the module in question and click on the button under the "Receipt" heading to the far right.  Your receipt will open in another window.

13. Will I be eligible for a refund or credit if I am unable to complete the module?

For Module 1, 2, 4 to 8, you are eligible for a refund minus an administration fee of $150.00 plus tax for cancellation/withdrawal requests received in writing before week 2.

For Module 3, there will be an administration fee of $235 plus tax for cancellations/withdrawal/transfer requests.  Refund requests must be received in writing before week 2 of the course.

Thereafter, no refund will be available.

Transfer request to a future online module offering is permissible only if received in writing prior to week 3 of the course.    

Credits to be used for future offerings are valid for 12 months from the date of initial payment and will expire if not used in that time frame

14. What are the cancellation procedures?

If you would like to withdraw from a module, please send an e-mail to the SCMP Administrator at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  Please copy your Coach on the email.

You are required to inform SCMAO of your intent as soon as possible. Clearly state your intention to withdraw and provide authorization for us to proceed. It is highly advisable that you review your eligibility for a refund or transfer credit prior to making this request.

Understanding the Online Format

15. How do the online modules compare to the classroom format?

The online modules were designed to mirror the classroom format as closely as possible. Your instructor in the classroom takes on the role of a Coach in the online format and is very accessible in the online learning environment. There is also an increased amount of learner-to-learner interaction due to forum discussion participation. An added advantage is that because it is technologically-based, you will have barrier-free access to the learning environment anytime and anyplace.

16. Will there be any webinars?

Webinars are not a component of the online modules. An orientation webinar will be scheduled at the start of each module to clarify expectations. Following that, forums and e-mails will be the method by which you interact with your fellow learners and communicate with your Coach.

Program & Materials Access

17. Where can I find the course materials?

The course materials are made available a week before the first day of your module. You may access them through the SCMP Online Learning platform by logging into the SCMA Member Portal.  Additionally, within each session there is a screen titled "Readings" and these readings are available in a printable PDF format.

18. Is there a way to download/print the materials?

Materials, including the candidate manual and readings, may be downloaded and printed for your personal use only.  The screens you will see when viewing the module online, may be bookmarked for reference later or you may print the individual pages if you wish.  In addition, "readings" are available for download from the readings page in each session.

19. Will the materials be available after the module has ended?

Once the module ends you will no longer be able to access the course community. The materials are available for your use during the duration of the module only. You may wish to print the individual pages as noted in question #18 and save a copy to your files.

20. Where do I find a session schedule?

At the start of the module you will be provided with a session schedule by an administrative staff. It includes the weekly assignments, their value, and all critical due dates. In addition, the schedule may be found within the course by clicking on "Content" and then "Overview" from the menu on the left of the screen.

Tips for Successfully Participating Online

21. Approximately how many hours will I need to dedicate weekly to each module?

As a rule, candidates should expect to spend an average of 8 to 10 hours of preparation and forum discussion time for each session. Some sessions will require less work, while others may require more.

22. Is there a specific time when the discussion forums are held and are they mandatory?

Discussion forums are not scheduled at a specific time.   Provided you complete each forum within each required week, the decision is yours as to exactly when you participate. There are one to four weekly forum discussions in each module for which participation is mandatory. You are required to participate in all of the forums by posting comments and responses to questions posed by your instructor. In addition, you are required to respond to the forum postings of your colleagues.

23. How do I submit my assignments?

You will submit your assignments by uploading them to the course site. Every exercise has an upload page with instructions as to how to submit your assignment.  Please ensure your assignments are in MS Word or PDF format.

Plagiarism policy

Kindly note SCMA has a plagiarism policy with which candidates are obliged to comply. Plagiarism is the act of submitting material that is in whole, or in substantial part, someone else's work, as one's own. Candidates are expected to acknowledge the sources of ideas and expressions they use in essays, reports, assignments, etc.

Penalty can range from zero on an assignment to expulsion from the SCMP program.

24. Will I have to follow a schedule, or may I simply ensure that all assignments are submitted before the last day of the module?

You are required to follow the schedule. Late assignments will only be accepted if you have made prior arrangements with the Coach.

25. How do I contact the instructor?

You may contact your Coach through the online program site messaging system. You must be signed into your account to contact your Coach.  From the course homepage, click on "Contacting Your Coach" from the menu on the right of the screen under "Course Info".   You may either click on the email noted on the page to open Outlook, or you can copy and paste the email address into the e-mail service you prefer to use.

27. What are the operational system requirements?

Grades, Exams and Completion Letters

28. What is the Grading Policy for the online program?

The grading policy for the online program is as follows:

Forum postings less than one week late will receive a 50% deduction.  Postings that are one week late will automatically receive a grade of 0%.

There will be an automatic deduction of 10 marks on a weekly basis for late exercises and case studies.  For example, if a paper worth 80% is one week late you will receive 70%.  After two weeks it will be 60%, and so on and so forth.

29. Will I be able to view my grades and assignment feedback online?

To view your grades and feedback for the assignments, click "Assignments" from the course menu bar.  You may also click on "Grades" from the course menu bar to view your grades for all assignments.

30. How will the exam be administered, and will it be written online?

The exam/MCA will be administered online. It will be available during the exam period for you to download once. All of the assignments, forums and the module evaluation must be completed before you will be able to access the exam.

Upon accessing your Final Exam/ MCA, you must complete and upload your submission through MySCMA by the due date stated on the assignment schedule.

Exams will only be accepted through MySCMA as a PDF or MS Word document. You are to submit one document only.

31. Will I be able to access the course during the exam?

You will be able to reference the course site during the exam period.

32. Will I receive an official record of completion when the module ends?

At the end of the module you will be able to print an official letter of completion. You can access the completion letter by selecting "Courses" from the menu bar and then clicking on "Course Access" from the dropdown menu. You will find the completion letter under the "My Achievements" section at the bottom of the page.

To pass the module you must receive at least 50% on the final exam regardless of your overall grade.

33. How will I receive ongoing pertinent program information?

Please check the "Announcements" sections of the SCMP Designation Program and Module homepages on a regular basis for updates, announcements, reminders, exam info and tools to succeed in the online environment.
