It is hard to believe 2018 is here already! I hope you and your loved ones had a wonderful holiday season and an even better New Year’s.
I always find myself reflecting on the past year in the first weeks of January, and this year is no different. 2017 was undoubtedly a year of continuous change for many of us and it seems 2018 may bring more of the same. As I look back, 2017 brought the Saskatchewan institute a new President, and a number of new representatives on the board. On the national front, we welcomed a new CEO, Christian Buhagiar and completed the transition to the new competency-based national board structure. In addition, we were pleased to welcome a number of new provincial representative to the Federation Council, who are sure to bring new ideas and expertise to this dynamic group. In the conversations, I have had and the meetings I have attended so far, I am both encouraged and excited by the level of enthusiasm and drive to grow our association and designation in the coming years.
With the change of the calendar, there is optimism for the new year and signs that 2018 will be a better year for our economy. For the SCMA, there will be a number of national task force groups starting work early in the year to help shape our new strategic plan. These task forces have been populated with members and representatives from across the country, who have the same passion and commitment to our association as you do. Over the next few months, these groups will be meeting on the phone and face-to-face to come up with a final plan for the National Board and Federation Council to approve in April. A lot of work will need to be done between now and then, but these groups have the expertise and commitment to get this important work done.
I look forward to seeing all of you in 2018 at our upcoming member meetings!
Aaron Scrobe, SCMP
